Description

Story Carl Ludwig Noah Bantzer was a German painter, professor, and art critic. He was born to Heinrich Bantzer (1809–1863), a veterinarian. Carl studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. From 1903, he was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund. Also, in 1904 he participated in their first joint exhibition with the Munich Secession at the Staatliche Antikensammlungen. In 1909, Kurt Schwitters, who was to become one of the most important German modern artists celebrated for his “Merz Pictures,” was one of his students. In 1918, he was appointed Director of the Kunsthochschule Kassel, a position he held until 1923. Bantzer was awarded the Goethe-Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft in 1937. In 1939, he was a candidate for the German National Prize for Art and Science. Princess Maria Anna Lobkowicz, née Oettingen-Wallerstein (1839–1912) was the wife of Moritz, 9th Prince Lobkowicz (1831–1903). Their wedding was on April 21, 1857, in Prague. They had seven children, one son and six daughters. Moritz was appointed as Imperial Chamberlain and also served as an advisor in the Privy Council. In 1881, he became one of the Knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece. He inherited the properties of Roudnice nad Labem, Jezeří, and Bílina from his father. In 1897, he bought the original family seat of Lobkovice (which was sold in 1829 by his father) from Jan Palacký (1830–1908), the son of an important historian and politician of the Czech Revivalist Movement, František Palacký (1798–1876). Current Condition There exists a cloudy layer of paint that is loosening and falling off. Full restoration is strongly suggested.
